Should you choose Spreeflo or Mailchimp?

Mailchimp is the safest default in email marketing, and it earns that. Nothing else in this comparison has 300+ integrations, a template library that deep, or twenty-five years of deliverability history behind it. If your requirement is "connect to the other nine tools we already use", Mailchimp is very hard to beat.

The catch is metering. Mailchimp charges on your total audience — including contacts who unsubscribed years ago, archived contacts, and the same person twice if they exist in two audiences — and it caps sends at 10× your contact count on Essentials. The automation is metered too: the $13 Essentials plan limits a customer journey to four steps, and branching logic starts at Standard.

Spreeflo starts at the same $13 (billed annually; $16 monthly) and takes the opposite position on both. The full journey builder ships on Starter with no step or workflow caps, and billing counts marketing contacts only — unsubscribed and non-marketing contacts are stored free, forever. At $24 Professional, Spreeflo adds three things Mailchimp does not sell at any price: browser push notifications, AI copy written per individual recipient at send time, and an MCP server that lets Claude or Cursor build journeys in your workspace.

What Spreeflo is

Spreeflo is an AI-powered marketing automation platform for founders and small teams — email, browser push notifications, forms and web analytics on one contact record, from $16/mo ($13 billed annually). Its AI writes per-recipient personalization at send time, an in-app AI assistant builds automations from plain language, and a hosted MCP server lets Claude, Claude Code or Cursor operate the whole workspace — while sends, publishes and deletes always require a person.

Founder-led businesses, one workspace. Sends, publishes and deletes always require a person — including when an AI agent is doing the building.

Where Spreeflo and Mailchimp differ

The two tools are built around different assumptions, so some of what Mailchimp covers has no Spreeflo equivalent. Here is exactly what that is, who it actually matters for, and what Spreeflo does in its place.

A much larger integration directory

Past 300 native integrations against Spreeflo’s shorter list. It matters most when your stack is already wired into Mailchimp. Spreeflo connects through its REST API and webhooks on Professional, which reaches the same tools with more setup — and without the tier requirements Mailchimp attaches to several of its own connectors.

A deeper template library

Mailchimp ships hundreds of pre-designed templates. Spreeflo’s drag-and-drop builder starts from a smaller library and puts its effort somewhere else: the AI writes the copy inside the template differently for each recipient, which is the part no template library touches.

Landing pages and basic websites

Mailchimp builds standalone pages and simple sites. Spreeflo builds forms — including full-page embeds that handle lead capture — but not a marketing site, so it assumes you already have somewhere to put one.

Predictive e-commerce scoring

Lifetime-value and purchase-likelihood scores on Standard and above. Spreeflo has no predictive modelling; it segments on behavior you can actually inspect — pages visited, events fired, templates engaged with — rather than on a score you have to take on faith.

Twenty-five years of track record

Mailchimp has run since 2001 and has Intuit behind it. Spreeflo is the newer company, and the exchange on offer is track record for a platform where the full journey builder costs $16, billing ignores contacts you never email, and an AI agent can build the campaigns.

Where Spreeflo comes out ahead of Mailchimp

13 of 26 scored rows go Spreeflo’s way — for these reasons:

The wins against Mailchimp cluster in two places. Price and billing: $36/mo at 5,000 contacts against $75–100, with no charge for the unsubscribed and archived contacts Mailchimp counts. And the things Mailchimp does not sell at any tier — browser push, a web analytics dashboard, custom objects, AI copy written per individual recipient, and an MCP server that reaches the marketing platform rather than only Mandrill. The automation row is a tiering difference rather than an absence: Mailchimp has a journey builder, but Essentials caps it at four steps and reserves branching for Standard.

Spreeflo is a marketing automation platform rather than a CRM, a page builder or an SMS gateway. The comparison above marks every row where that shows — nothing is hidden in a footnote.
